Transaction Terms
Draft — pending review by LookAtPets legal counsel. This page is not legal advice.
1. LookAtPets' role
LookAtPets is a marketplace platform. It helps buyers and sellers find each other and, where enabled, provides payment tooling, transaction records, handover records, reputation, reporting, and dispute assistance. LookAtPets is not a party to the sale and does not act as an escrow agent, insurer, guarantor, or fiduciary for either party.
2. The seller is the merchant
When a payment is processed through LookAtPets, the seller is the merchant for that sale. The payment is made on the seller's own Stripe account, and the seller's name appears to the buyer.
3. The payment provider
Payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe's own terms apply to sellers' Stripe accounts. LookAtPets does not hold buyer funds.
4. Buyer and seller responsibilities
- Buyers and sellers are each responsible for their own dealings and conduct.
- Sellers are responsible for accurate, lawful listings and for completing the sale as described.
- Buyers are responsible for reviewing the listing and asking questions before paying.
5. LookAtPets' marketplace fee
LookAtPets charges sellers a marketplace fee of 5% of the payment, with a $1.25 minimum. The fee is earned when a payment is processed successfully and is generally non-refundable to the seller, except where required by law, for a duplicate, incorrect, or failed processing caused by LookAtPets, or by an audited staff correction.
6. Refunds
The seller is responsible for refunds on their sales. A buyer's refund is not reduced by LookAtPets' fee. Refunds are generally taken from the seller's Stripe balance, as Stripe allows. Refund timing to the buyer depends on Stripe and the buyer's bank.
7. Disputes and chargebacks
If a buyer disputes a card payment with their bank, the dispute is handled on the seller's Stripe account, and the seller is responsible for responding and for any resulting loss, to the extent Stripe's terms and applicable law allow. LookAtPets may help by providing its transaction records.
8. Payout timing
A payment confirmation does not mean the seller has received money in their bank. When funds become available and when payouts arrive depend on Stripe, the seller's account, and their bank. LookAtPets adds no hold of its own.
9. Paying the seller directly
If you pay a seller directly, outside LookAtPets payments, LookAtPets cannot process or issue a refund. It can only record what the parties report and assist where it is able.
10. Handover and records
Handover confirmations are records of what happened. They do not release or hold money. Keep your own copies of agreements and receipts.
11. Fraud, reporting, and moderation
You can report listings, members, and messages. LookAtPets reviews reports and may restrict or remove accounts or listings, but it does not promise any particular outcome or recovery of funds.
12. Limitations
To the extent permitted by applicable law, LookAtPets is not responsible for the honesty, performance, or outcome of any buyer or seller. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law.
