Before you bring an animal home

• Research the species, breed, and individual animal's needs.
• Understand lifespan, daily care, exercise, and veterinary costs.
• Confirm your living situation, family, and local regulations support this animal.
• Use the Match Me tool if you're unsure where to start.

After you bring them home

• Provide species-appropriate housing, diet, and enrichment.
• Maintain veterinary care and required vaccinations.
• Microchip and register your animal where applicable.
• Plan for what happens if you can no longer care for them.

If circumstances change

Re-home responsibly through LookAtPets's network of rescues and adoption-focused breeders rather than abandoning or surrendering to a high-intake facility when avoidable.
